As part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, effective July 4th, 2026, Trump Accounts created financial freedom for millions of Americans under the age of 18. Children born between January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2028, are eligible for a one-time $1,000 contribution from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Children are the direct beneficiaries with the parent/guardian being the sole custodian until the child turns 18 years old. As the child gets older, their interest will compound. Therefore, the investment (contributing $0/year) will grow to about $6,000 by the age of 18, and to about $243,000 by the age of 55. With these accounts, parents/guardians can contribute up to $5,000/year.
Automatic Enrollment for Children Under 18
Starting October 1st, 2026, the U.S. Treasury automatically enrolled eligible Americans under the age of 18, who do not have active Trump Accounts, accounts. These accounts must be claimed by the parent/guardian along with the one-time $1,000 contribution. Automatic enrollment allows children to be able to start receiving contributions without the requirement of a parent/guardian to first open the account.
How to Access Your Child’s Account
To access this account, download the Trump Accounts: Official App. To download it on the App store. To download it on the Google Play store. You can view, manage, and contribute to your children’s account directly within the app.
Tax Policy on Trump Accounts
Contributions to these accounts are made with after-tax dollars and are not tax deductible. Investment earnings are tax-deferred until withdrawn. Once the money is eventually pulled out of the account, it will then have all the tax advantages of a traditional IRA. Withdrawal from Trump Accounts is prohibited until the child is 18 years or older.
